Happy Halfway to 50 Birthday!

It's my birthday! And the day I had to give up my skinny jeans for elastic. I made it 15 weeks with my zippers, not too bad in my opinion. We got up and had lunch at Lambert's with my parents and in-laws. After being stuffed we went back to my parents for cake and ice cream and presents! My parents got me the WII game by Food Network, "Cook or Be Cooked". Love it!!! Chad got me my very own nightstand that matches our bedroom furniture. This was a great birthday!

Turkey Day

What's the best part about being pregnant? Eating! Especially on Thanksgiving! We had lunch at my parents this year and I had a great time. Now off to bed early for Black Friday!

And the ultrasound showed...

I'm pregnant! I am actually pregnant with a 6w1d old fetus! When the tech said that I was in disbelief! How's was that possible? After laying there thinking that might explain why I've been so tired, my boobs hurt and I was getting up in the middle of the night to pee.

The Plan: Care for our unborn child for the next 44 weeks!

On a side note we are leaving today to go to Fort Worth, TX to visit my aunt and uncle. Shhh...got to keep this a secret!

Follicle Re-Scan

Speaking directly to my ovaries..."Why do you not work like you're supposed to? You need to work once a month and produce one follicle."

Needless to say, there are still follicles on my left ovaries so I'll be continuing with BCP.

Disappearing follicles?

The ultrasound today still showed follicles so we will re-scan in 2 weeks.

Labor Day Weekend

The weekend started off great. My parents and us went to the casino just to do something fun. The casino was having a drawing every 30 minutes so hey we put our names in the pot of hundreds of others. We hadn't been there 15 minutes and they called my name. They actually called Kayla Porter! I won $1000 on my players card! Holy smokes, I never win anything. It only took us 1 1/2 hour to spend it all but I walked out the door with $500 in my pocket!

On the actually day of Labor Day when most offices are closed my doctor opened his office just for us. I had to have an ultrasound to check for follicles and they were there. This first off amazed the heck out of me that they cared that much for their patients. Well, the ultrasound showed about 12 follicles which is way too many to trigger since the risk of multiples would be through the roof. So I left the office with a months supply of birth control pills and scheduled another ultrasound in a week to check to make sure the follicles were going away.

The Plan: Take BCPs for a month to clear up everything then try an experiment of Clomid and Dexamthasone.

Summer 2009

Well, my summer was spent working and going to doctor appointments. I have decided that my body might as well be a pin cushion for all the shots I've had to suffer through. I am able to mix the shots but not give them to myself so Chad had to step up and do that. You would have thought he was killing me since every time I hid my head with a pillow! Once again I can go on and on about how nice this new doctor is. He and his staff have been nothing but wonderful to us! I absolutely LOVE the ultrasound tech which is a little odd since it's a male and the particular kind of ultrasound I have been having but hey he is great! The lady that draws my blood is also amazing, you never know when she actually sticks you!

We're keeping our heads up and hoping for the best!

Hello Dr. Wonderful

My new doctor is wonderful so from now I will refer to him as Dr. Wonderful! He and his staff spent time talking to us and explaining different options we have. He didn't agree with what Dr. Snotty had told us. We shared stories about the weird, unusual things that the Dr. Snotty did or said. I told him about taking Femara without being monitored so he immediately ordered bloodwork to check progesterone levels.

The Plan: Wait for the results of the bloodwork. If negative then start Provera. Once AF arrives CD 3-7 take Femara and CD 4 and 6 a FSH injections (Fostimon).

Here we go again

So the plan this cycle was to take Femara CD 3-7. Okay, well my wonderful RE decided not to monitor me this month and just hope that Chad and I can time things right and finally get our BFP. Sounds good, right? WRONG! When the RE wasn't going to monitor I started looking for a new doctor. And I found one! In Springfield! My first appointment is scheduled for July 14th. I cannot begin to describe how excited I am. This doctor is out-of-network so it will cost us a lot but we will not have all the time invested in travel and hotel costs.

Scan #2

Since it was short notice Chad wasn't able to go to KC with me so my mom rode with me instead. This was a new experience for Mom, she has an idea of what everything is and why we have to do things but she had never seen this kind of ultrasound before. The scan still didn't show anything so this cycle was a waste. Disappointed but still hopeful for the next cycle. Also I got the wonderful chat about losing weight. Later my mom made a comment about hitting me while I was down. Yes, this is what this RE does. Let's tell you the bad news then gripe about your weight, how rude!

The Plan: Wait for my period and then try Femara/Letrozole again.

Happy 2nd Anniversary

Chad and I are celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary. It's hard to believe that it's been 2 years already. If feels like yesterday we were getting married. We didn't do a whole lot for our anniversary this year since it was on a Tuesday. Chad did sent me flowers...ahh how sweet! We've been on one wild roller coaster, let's hope this year things will go our way more.

Follicle Scan

I went to the Martin Center for the follicle scan today. This time was a little different. There was a couple of students that "had never seen a case quite like mine". I was fine with this, we were all females. But after talking to the RE there were no follicles large enough so I needed a re-scan. At the RE's office they do not charge for this but the Martin Center does so off to Kansas City I'll go in 4 days.

Next round please

Here we go again. Today's cycle day 1.

The Plan: Take Femara days 3-7, 5mg again then ultrasound to check for follicles.

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

And the results are in...

Not pregnant! I tell myself every cycle that this will be the one but to try and not get my hopes up. Yes, I'm a little disappointed but we will keep trying.

The Plan: Another round of Femara/Letrozole.

Trigger Day

The dreaded shot day...yikes! So I get home from work and try not to think about what's waiting for me in the fridge. I was instructed to do the shot between 8 and 10pm. I tried to avoid it as long as I could but Chad wouldn't let me forget. At 9:00 I got everything prepared and Chad gave the shot to me while I was laying on the bed with the pillow over my face. It wasn't that bad, I was just really nervous! Thanks Chad for being so gentle with me!

The plan: Trigger at least one follicle to release an egg.

Follicle Scan Day

I went to the Martin Center today for the ultrasound to check the progress of the follicles. The people at the Martin Center couldn't tell me anything so I just laid there on their makeshift table. Nothing like laying still for 25 minutes with a dildo camera up your vajayjay! So later after not hearing anything my the RE I called them and once again got to talk to one of the rude ladies at the front desk. But finally got through to the RE.

The plan: Wait 2 days (so the follicles can grow a little more) then do the HcG trigger shot.

April Fool's Day

It's the start of our new cycle with the new plan!

The Plan: 5mg Femara* on the 3rd-7th and ultrasound on the 13th

*Femara is FDA approved for breast cancer patients but has recently been used as a fertility treatment.

Appointment Day

Happy Birthday Chad!!

Since our appointment was at 9:00 on a Monday, Chad and I decided to drive up the day before and stay in a hotel. We did that when we had our first appointment too. It makes it feel more like a mini vacation than a doctor's appointment. And also today is Chad's birthday so we needed to make fun for him too. We arrive at the RE's office a few minutes early and sit in the waiting area. This always makes me feel a little uncomfortable since everyone knows why everyone is there. They finally take us back to the consult room and I get the lucky priviledge of being weighed. Yikes! Hello? I'm fully dressed and just had breakfast, what did you expect? Anyway, the RE comes in and frowns at my weight but says that we will try Femara/Letrozole this cycle with a HcG trigger shot. We will also need to monitor the follicles closely with ultrasounds which can be done in Springfield instead of driving to Kansas City. He leaves and says that his assistant will be in to explain everything. Chad and I start reading magazines, not paying any attention to the time. After an hour and a half, I had to go find someone because they had forgotten all about us! We finally get a plan and are able to leave.

Feeling like a failure

I've been taking the Metformin for 5 months now and I have lost 5-10 pounds depending on the day. I'm to the point of major frustration! I have been keeping in contact with the RE through e-mail so I sent them a message. And it basically said, "You help us or we will find someone who will". This message received a quick response and we have an appointment set up for March 16th. They said that when we see them we will come up with a plan. Okay, I can live with this, at least we are doing something.
